Somerset

|

We were the ones
The queens and kings of summer
Wrapped in aspirations
We were legendary
And then we moved on
Over the furthest of earth's horizons
Still the pull's too strong
We know we belong
Because the times are so great when we get back together
To celebrate or whenever we feel like it
And we feel like it
OK, time to go
Just throw your stuff in the car and drive
You heard from the others yet?
Yeah, they say they're on their way
See you in Somerset
And it feels like it's been forever
And it feels like no time at all
Since we danced in the sunset
Oooh ooh ooh
See you in Somerset
J and B will be in the air now
Cos they texted us from Pearson
The girls are stuck on the 303
And the lads are at Temple Meads
Whatever possessed them to go that way
Must have cost the best part of half a day
But they'll be here
They'll all be here
Because the times are so great when we get back together
To celebrate or whenever we feel like it
And we feel like it
OK, time to go
Just throw your stuff in the car and drive
You heard from the others yet?
Yeah, they say they're on their way
See you in Somerset
And it feels like it's been forever
And it feels like no time at all
Since we danced in the sunset
Oooh ooh ooh
See you in Somerset
For this day
After so many years
For this day
Rainbows of tears
If we feel like it
And we feel like it
OK, time to go
Just throw your stuff in the car and drive
You heard from the others yet?
Yeah, they say they're on their way
See you in Somerset
And it feels like it's been forever
And it feels like no time at all
Since we danced in the sunset
Oooh ooh ooh
See you
OK, time to go
Just throw your stuff in the car and drive
You heard from the others yet?
Yeah, they say they're on their way
See you in Somerset
And it feels like it's been forever
And it feels like no time at all
Since we danced in the sunset
Oooh ooh ooh
See you in Somerset

Hey Bon
04:22
|
|||
Live wire
Back to bare metal
On fire
Bright like acetylene
Voice like an angel
Smile like a devil
Imminent danger
From the soul of a rebel
Hey Bon
Well it's the bad boy boogie that we like best
Full throttle rocking like a thing possessed
Hey Bon
High explosive
Rock and roll scream
Like a locomotive
At full steam
Ain't no riff raff
No problem child
Jack od diamonds
Aces wild
Hey Bon
For dirty deeds you know we come to you
If we want blood like you know we do
Hey Bon
Hey Bon, what's going on?
They tell us that the glory days are gone
Who's gonna rally us on?
You're the only one
Hey Bon
The greatest singers
In the greatest bands
All snapping their fingers
And clapping their hands
LA to Timbuktu
Tokyo to London
You're who they look to
You're who they want
Hey Bon
Smile like a devil in a wild fire
Back to bare metal like a bright live wire
Hey Bon
Hey Bon, what's going on?
They tell us that the glory days are gone
Who's gonna rally us on?
You're the only one
Hey Bon

When I was a young boy
I didn't much like school
Everything had a restriction, a regulation or a rule
Well I kicked against the system
Every chance I got
Everything they said I should I said that I would not
Yes they pegged me for a fool
Because I didn't want to be there
But it doesn't seem that foolish
Looking back on it from here
By the time they tossed me out
I'd had enough of hearing nonsense
Because nothing they tried to teach me seemed like any use at all
So I turned up pirate radio
As loud as I could make it go
And everything made sense instantly
And nothing sounded better than rock and roll to me
So I bought me a Les Paul copy
Started bashing it around
Tortured and abused the poor thing until I liked the sound
Then I set biro to paper
Wrestling down on the page
Songs to capture the zeitgeist, songs of ignorance and rage
Then I set out to make an impact
Trying to look like a contender
Decked in every rising fashion
Like the panoply of war
But it's hard to wage a battle
When you don't know who you're fighting
With one eye on the leader
And the other on the door
So I resolved to play the the waiting game
With two brass ha'pennies to my name
Never better than tenth place in the queue
And nothing better than rock and roll to do
Well I felt the dream get closer
Almost close enough to clutch
Too close to let it go too far away to touch
Every passing bandwagon
I'd follow it blind
Changed my style a thousand times, one step behind
But I figured out too late
It's best to lead and not to follow
And be blessed with chiselled cheekbones
And a liberal dose of luck
But while I was drowning in self pity
Someone dived straight in to save me
Who took me for what I was
And who didn't give a
About unachievable fantasies
That come with rock and roll disease
And in the bolt of lightning moment there I knew
The only thing better than rock and roll was you

Tourmaline
04:55
|
|||
Late afternoon is a peacock's tail
Shimmering by
Colours are scattered like coins from a fountain
Of fire
A moment of liquid solidifies
A droplet of time
And she trips in, left of centre
A true love of mine
The hand of the sculptress draws treasures
From deep in the earth
Tracing with crystalline facets
The stones of our birth
Carven chalcedony creatures
Spiral in line
And dark lapis lazuli whispers
A true love of mine
Like a bough without a tree
Tree without a bird
Bird without a sea
Sea without rhythm
Rhythm without a beat
Beat without a heart
Heart without love
Love without a kiss
A kiss without a dream
Dream without sleep
Sleep without waking
Waking without life
Life without limb
Limb without a bough
Oh Tourmaline
Oh my Tourmaline
Like an isle on dry land
Land without earth
Earth without a harvest
Harvest without fruit
Fruit without a vine
Vine without rainfall
Rain without a cloud
Cloud without a sky
Sky without air
Air without heat
Heat without light
Light without the sun
Sun without the moon
Moon without a stone
Stone without a ring
My ring without her hand
I'll never understand
Land without earth
Earth without a harvest
Harvest without fruit
Fruit without a vine
Vine without rainfall
Rain without a cloud
Cloud without a sky
Sky without air
Air without heat
Heat without the sun
Sun without the moon
Moon without a stone
Stone without a ring
My ring without her hand
Oh my Tourmaline
Oh my Tourmaline

Mountain Highway
05:11
|
|||
Pulled in off the mountain highway
The sparkling stars were closer than before
Isiah said 1997
Ezekiel 2024
But all their prophecies came to nothing
Which should have been no surprise
Because faced with a wait for truth
We are comforted by lies
Mountain highway
Mountain highway
Well it never fails to stop your heart
That majestic mountain highway
As it twists betwixt the rocky rifts
From Domodossola to La Valais
The ascent has a scent of victory
Like for Bonaparte before
This impressive means of transportation
Became an avenue of war
Mountain highway
Mountain highway
We drove the mountain highway
We were the best we'd ever been
Came across an ugly crowd of misfits
And found we fit right in
But as we crested the airless summit
We didn't see which way they went
Stomping on the brakes
Against the mad headlong descent
Mountain highway
Mountain highway
Mountain highway
Mountain highway

I Think She Loves Me
04:46
|
|||
I get that feeling
Every time we talk
It's like I stop breathing
And my heart does somersaults
Each time I see her
She always makes me guess
Next time I'll ask her
I hope she answers
I think she oh
I think she oh
I think she loves me
All the strange things that she says
Must mean she loves me
It finally makes sense
I think she
I think she's proud of me
Heard her talking 'bout me to her girls
Does that mean she loves me?
Incomprehensible
She is my torment
EWhen she acts so nonchalant
But in this moment
She's all I'll ever want
I think she loves me
All the strange things that she says
Must mean she loves me
It finally makes sense
I think she oh
I think she oh
I think she oh oh oh oh oh
I think she oh
I think she oh
I think she oh oh oh oh oh
I think she
Why does she tease me
And cause me so much pain?
She could just leave me
Then the pain would never end
I think she loves me
All the strange things that she says
Must mean she loves me
It finally makes sense
I think she oh
I think she oh
I think she oh oh oh oh oh
I think she oh
I think she oh
I think she oh oh oh oh oh
I think she
etc etc

Untouchable
05:16
|
|||
I'm untouchable
Walked up to that big door and walked right in
Untouchable
Took a look around walked straight out again
I'm invincible
And the night's made of broken glass
Invincible
J-J-J-jeopardy just makes me laugh
I'm invincible
And I'm not concerned any more
I'm untouchable
And I'm not afraid any more
I'm unstoppable
I did it all and came back for more
Unstoppable
I walk four inches off the floor
I'm indestructible
Catch machetes in my teeth
Indestructible
Cold as the stones beneath
I'm unstoppable
And I'm not afraid any more
I'm indestructible
And I'm not real any more
Take my dignity
Drain it away
My humanity
Let it decay
Take my darkness
Take my light
Give me chemicals, pure and bright
Keep me comfortable, keep me clean
Keep me hooked up to the machine
Take my fire and all such
I'm a pariah, don't touch
Untouchable
I'm untouchable
I'm untouchable
And I'm not alive any more
Take my dignity
Drain it away
Take my humanity
Let it decay
Take my darkness
Take my light
Give me chemicals, pure and bright
Keep me comfortable, keep me clean
Keep me hooked to that damned machine
Take my fire and all such
I'm a pariah, don't touch
I'm untouchable
I'm untouchable
Untouchable
Untouchable
Untouchable

There was a glittering banquet at the Palace of Shame
10000 guests and every delicacy you could name
But no clue to who had provided it all
So I snuck into the kitchen at the back of the hall
And there, cooking with cheap and nasty knives,
I saw Jesus and the Devil and all their wives
Cooking with cheap and nasty knives
Cooking with cheap and nasty knives
Serving up the canapes of our lives
Jesus and the Devil and all their wives
I said, uh, how the devil do you make this work,
The heavenly harp and the pitchfork?
They said although we occasionally disagree
It's kind of like a democracy
And we're mostly working towards the same ends
Not so much enemies more like rival friends
Mostly working towards the same ends
Mostly working towards the same ends
Despite what your catechism pretends
Jesus and the Devil and all their friends
Well it shook me down to the soles of my boots
When I found those two were in cahoots
Working together behind the scenes
Corruption by all possible means
Invented by humans without faces
Keeping us firmly in our places
Ruling over presidents and kings
The final arbiters of all things
Well when it came my time to die
Weighed down by the terrible knowledge
I had learned back then I felt relieved
Knowing what would not be believed
There to meet me at the gates
Jesus and the Devil and all their mates
There to meet me at the gates
There to meet me at the gates
Beware what comes to he who waits
Jesus and the Devil and all their mates
There to meet me at the gates
There to meet me at the gates
Beware what comes to he who waits
Jesus and the Devil and all their mates

Lets Get This Over With
05:30
|
|||
Well I can't believe this is happening
The things they're putting me through
The whole process is maddening
Things I have to do
It's like one thing after another thing
I think I'm starting to crack
And you can't blame me for wondering
If I'll ever get my life back
Well I'm not here to bandy platitudes
About what is and isn't fair
Because, in these lower lattitudes,
No-one seems to care.
I don't count it amongst my aptitudes
To cope when things foul up
It requires a change in attitudes
Which I'm struggling to drum up
Let's get this over with
So I can get back on with my real life
These modern days are a passing phase
Don't you realise?
When it all blows over
I can relax a little bit
Let's get this over with
So I can get back on with it
Well I've forgotten all my passwords
Though I know they're written down somewhere
And I missed the software upgrades
And long lost track of what plugs in where
I'd be happy that we're dealing
With extraordinary times
If it wasn't for that nagging feeling
Of getting left behind
Let's get this over with
So I can get back on with my real life
These modern days are a passing phase
Don't you realise?
When it all blows over
I can relax a little bit
Let's get this over with
So I can get back on with it

Foregone
06:21
|
|||
I've seen the future and I don't want it
But I'm manacled, powerless to stop it
I feel it creeping, creeping closer
Cos I saw what took my father
And now his face is in the morning mirror
Can't describe the terror
And all the money in the world can't buy your way out of it
And all the anger in the world can't shout your way out of it
And all the hope in the world can't wish your way out of it
You won't know when it has come
Your conclusion is foregone
In my life, never feared anything
Take on everything, up for anything
I'd bring the fight and never fail
I'd take the risks and live to sing the tale
But I'm in mortal fear of this silent enemy
And it's stalking me
And all the money in the world can't buy your way out of it
And all the anger in the world can't shout your way out of it
And all the hope in the world can't wish your way out of it
You won't know when it has come
Your conclusion is foregone
I'm like an animal trying to escape
Clawing at the walls with broken nails
Rupturing vessels and ripping skin
Desperate for grip as I'm dragged back in
Back into the pit of foregone despair
There's no way back from there
And all the money in the world can't buy your way out of it
And all the anger in the world can't shout your way out of it
And all the hope in the world can't wish your way out of it
You won't know when it has come
Your conclusion is foregone
